Savage bolt rifles are unique in that they utilize a barrel nut system. This makes installing different barrels quite easy without the need for a machine shop. Savage offers a few different types of receivers to choose from, including the standard short actions, long actions, left handed models and new target actions which are offered in right or left port configurations. Magnum calibers are also offered. To have a custom savage built, you will have to make a few decisions:
- Choose your action type (short,long,magnum,target etc...)
- Choose a caliber
- Choose barrel length,twist,contour and manufacturer (Savage, ER Shaw, McGowen, or Shillen)
- Choose a stock (see info below)
- Choose a finish
- Choose additional options (trigger, bolt handle, bedding, etc...)
Once your decisions have been made, you can place your order. Some items may need to be special ordered and may take a few weeks to arrive. The assembly of your new rifle is done with exteme care to ensure the best possible accuracy and quality fit and finish. A precision ground recoil lug is used on all custom builds and headspace is set to spec with the proper guages. ***NOTE** Savage has recently changed the design of the magazine feeding system from a staggered feed system to a centerfeed system. The action screw spacing is now changed and most aftermarket stocks will not fit the new actions. Until the stock companies update their products, most stocks will have to be special ordered. Please contact us for info on choosing a stock for the new actions.
